Oct 01, I can't be the only one out there who didn't like this book. Have tried three times to read it but just gave up in boredom. It's OK, I don't think you are missing that much. I liked it, but it wasn't life changing. I felt its strongest points were in the description of life in Germany during the war. If you are interested in the human side of the war, let me recommend the wartime memoir, "The Hiding Place" by Corrie Ten Boom. It is actually set in Holland, but is simply one of the best books I have ever read.
